Traveling … Just Because

The thing I love about traveling is finding interesting things you were not expecting. I do like major tourist things at times, but the real treasures are found on back roads in remote places.

There was magic as promised in the Utah national parks. It was also there at Great Bend National Park in Texas. Both were just as spectacular as advertised.

I also like hitting the back roads and just seeing what is there. I don’t know what my motivation was for wanting to explore the Dakotas - both of them, both north and south. We did, though, take a couple of weeks pulling a camper across both states in the middle of the summer. Now I’ll be the first to admit the scenery was less than awesome. But it was the real America, and that is the best kind of traveling for me.

We found the small town of Rugby, North Dakota, and it claims to be the geographical center of the North American continent. There is a bit of controversy there too. Of course, I read the marker and did my own research.

Here is a story about that.. click here.
